APPRENTICESHIP

COORDINATOR

  • The Coordinator’s duties will include but not be limited to the following:

    • Sign up of new apprentices- to include union membership (when applicable) and explanation of expectations, Work Progress Reports, class schedule, policies/procedures and standards.

    • Mentoring of new apprentices- to include weekly check-ins in their first 6 weeks or so and at least monthly after that.

    • Follow up and management of Journey Retrainee members- to include checking in with them and their employer to see what skills we need to work with them on.

    • Scheduling classes to include 4 blocks (Mon-Fri) per school year (September-May) and at least 4 Saturdays per calendar year of journey retrainee/STAR classes. Making sure curriculum, tools and materials are lined up.

    • Working with union contractors to make sure we are reaching out to relevant manufacturers and putting on relevant STAR training. Scheduling 3 or more manufacturer certifications/seminars per calendar year. (Protectall, Tarkett, Nora, Mondo, ETC)

    • Attending job/recruitment fairs as scheduled (approximately 5 per calendar year)

    • Working with admin staff to get ready for monthly JATC meetings (last Wednesday of each month)

    • Work with admin staff, apprentices and training agents to make sure Work Progress Reports are in timely (due 1st, late 10th)

    • Work with admin staff to make sure employer re-rate evaluations are received back timely (around 15th of the month)

    • Recruitment of members to attend at least their 24 hours for STAR. A well trained membership is vital to the survival of this Union!

    • Work with admin staff to plan and implement annual STAR awards- to include getting donations for swag/prizes and possibly relevant industry professionals to speak/attend event.

    • Making sure all purchases are documented and paperwork/receipts turned in to admin staff weekly

    • Responsible for turning in time for Coordinator and other instructors. (Every other Monday at the latest).

    Long Term Goals

    • Recruit women into our trade through apprenticeship!

    • Implement new Journey Certification

    • Implement turf training once or more a year

    • Work to implement IUPAT International Floor Covering Curriculum into our program

    • Assist in developing a Mentor program where we team members up with apprentices and new members.

    Hours

    • 16 hours per week for Coordinator duties (Thursday and Friday).  Hours and days are subject to change depending on required meetings, job fairs, and events.

    • Block training: 45 hours per block (40 hours, plus 1 hour/day OT for prep).

    • Saturday classes: 9 hours overtime.

    Benefits (Per Floor Covering CBA)

    • Vacation/PTO/Sick Leave: Included in wage. All other per Oregon Sick Leave Law

    • Vehicle use: Per CBA including mileage

    • Cell Phone: Monthly reimbursement at agreed upon rate

    • IUPAT Membership: Employee must remain an IUPAT Local 1236 member in good standing during the course of employment.
